Help fund local hearing loss support across Shropshire

Helping people stay connected, confident and independent

A vital service helping people across Shropshire stay independent, confident and connected is at the heart of a new fundraising appeal.

Community Resource is inviting local people, groups and businesses to come together to help fund hearing loss support across Shropshire. For many older residents, this help is a lifeline, enabling them to stay connected to everyday life and avoid isolation.

Why this support matters

Living with hearing loss can make everyday situations more difficult. Conversations can become harder to follow. Social situations can feel overwhelming. Over time, this can lead to people losing confidence or feeling cut off from others.

Local hearing loss support helps people overcome these challenges and stay part of their communities.

How the service helps

Community Resource delivers a hearing loss support service across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. This includes:

  • practical help with NHS hearing aids
  • maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting
  • friendly advice and guidance
  • local community hubs
  • home and care home visits for people who cannot travel

For many people, this support makes the difference between staying connected and becoming isolated.

The impact so far

Over the past year, the service has:

  • delivered 144 hearing loss hubs across 13 locations
  • supported 1,512 appointments
  • carried out 872 home visits
  • provided 741 hours of volunteer support

This work is delivered by trained volunteers who offer patience, understanding and practical help.

How you can get involved

Community Resource is now asking the community to play a role in sustaining and growing this vital service.

There are many ways to help:

  • make a donation
  • organise a local fundraiser
  • take on a challenge
  • partner as a business
  • choose the service as your charity partner

Every contribution will help ensure people across Shropshire can continue to access support close to home.

A real difference to people’s lives

One family member shared:

“My father, aged 91, visited the support hub at Ludlow Library and had his hearing aid repaired straight away. Without that help, he would have really struggled. The volunteers were so supportive, and it made such a difference to him.”

Working together

The service is delivered in partnership with SaTH (Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital) Audiology and reaches communities across Shropshire.

Bev Baxter, Chief Executive at Community Resource, said:

“For many people, particularly older residents, this service is essential. It helps people remain independent, connected and confident in their daily lives. We are inviting our community to be part of keeping it available for everyone who needs it.”

Hanna Clarke, Head of Fundraising and Communications, added:

“There are many ways to get involved, from making a donation to organising a fundraiser or partnering with us as a business. Every contribution will help ensure people across Shropshire can continue to access this important support.”
