Shropshire Grassroots Fund

Funding to help community groups grow

The Shropshire Grassroots Fund provides grants to help new and established community groups in Shropshire grow, develop and become more sustainable.

The fund focuses on supporting grassroots organisations to build capacity, reach more people and strengthen their work over the longer term.

Who the fund is for

You can apply if your group is based in Shropshire and primarily supports local residents.

The fund is open to:

  • new start-up groups or those operating for less than 12 months
  • small voluntary and community organisations operating for more than 12 months with an annual income under £50,000

Funding available

You can apply for:

  • up to £300 if your group is new or has been running for less than 12 months
  • up to £1,000 if your group has been running for more than 12 months

Applications are assessed on how well they support your organisation’s growth and long-term sustainability.

What the fund supports

The fund supports activities and costs that help your organisation grow and develop.

This may include:

  • training for staff or volunteers
  • volunteer expenses
  • equipment or furniture
  • promotional materials
  • room hire
  • core costs that help you reach more people or expand your work

Priority is given to projects that demonstrate a clear long-term benefit for the organisation.

What the fund does not support

The fund cannot support:

  • general fundraising appeals
  • ongoing staff salaries
  • large capital or building projects
  • parties or one-off events

How to apply

To apply, your group must:

  • be based in Shropshire
  • serve Shropshire residents
  • meet the eligibility criteria for your organisation type

Twemlows Fund

Funding for community and voluntary groups in Shropshire

The Twemlows 1 Fund provides grants of up to £2,000 to support community and voluntary groups across Shropshire.

The fund supports projects that improve wellbeing, strengthen communities and protect the environment. Priority is given to projects based within 15 miles of Prees Heath, but groups from across the county can apply.

Who can apply

You can apply if you are a community or voluntary group based in Shropshire.
Your project must meet at least one of the fund’s priorities.

What the fund supports

The fund supports projects that make a positive difference to people, communities or the environment.
This includes projects that:

  • reduce fuel poverty or improve energy efficiency
  • address homelessness or food poverty, or support local food production
  • improve quality of life for older people or people experiencing mental health challenges
  • support community enterprise or social and environmental innovation
  • improve and protect the local environment, including reducing waste
  • provide environmental education
  • support the upkeep or improvement of community buildings

Funding available

Grants of up to £2,000 are available.

All applications are assessed based on how well they meet the fund priorities and the impact they will have.

Location priority

Priority is given to projects within a 15-mile radius of Prees Heath.

  • be a community or voluntary group
  • meet at least one of the funding priorities
