Hearing Loss Support

Helping people stay connected, confident and independent
Living with hearing loss can affect much more than someone’s ability to hear. It can make conversations harder, affect confidence and leave people feeling less connected to family, friends and their community.
Our Hearing Loss Support Service provides practical help, advice and peer support to people across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
Our trained volunteers can help people maintain their NHS hearing aids and resolve common problems. They also provide advice, reassurance and support to help people feel more confident living with hearing loss.
Many of our volunteers have personal experience of hearing loss. This means people can talk to someone who understands some of the challenges they may be facing.
Your donation can help more people living with hearing loss stay connected, confident and independent.
Why hearing loss support matters
Living with hearing loss can affect much more than someone’s ability to hear. It can make conversations harder, affect confidence and leave people feeling less connected to family, friends and their community.
Sometimes the need is practical, such as getting help with a hearing aid. At other times, someone may need advice about living with hearing loss, reassurance or simply the opportunity to talk to someone who understands.
Our Hearing Loss Support Service gives people a welcoming place to access that support.
People can get:
- practical help with NHS hearing aids
- advice about managing and living with hearing loss
- reassurance and a listening ear
- peer support from volunteers with lived experience
- information and signposting to other sources of support
Support is available through community hubs across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, as well as through home and care-home visits for people who find it difficult to travel.

Many of our volunteers have experience of hearing loss themselves. This means people can ask questions and talk about their experiences with someone who understands some of the challenges they may be facing.
“Hearing loss can be a lonely business. It is a joy to see people leaving the room with a relaxed smile on their faces, having come in looking anxious, and with more confidence in managing their hearing loss.”

The difference it makes
2,384 hearing loss support interventions
During 2025/26, our volunteers provided 2,384 hearing loss support interventions.
These included:
- 1,512 interventions at community Hearing Loss Support Hubs
- 872 home and care-home interventions
- support delivered by 27 trained volunteers
Behind every intervention is a person
It might be someone who needs help getting their hearing aid working again. It could be someone looking for advice about managing their hearing loss, or reassurance from a volunteer who understands their experience.
Some people use the service more than once. Each intervention is another opportunity to help someone overcome a problem, answer a question or feel more confident managing their hearing loss.
And the difference can go much further than hearing aid maintenance.
Our support can help people communicate with family and friends, take part in conversations, maintain their independence and feel more connected.
For someone living with hearing loss, simply knowing there is somewhere welcoming to turn for help and advice can provide reassurance.
When the hearing aid of a 91-year-old man in Ludlow stopped working, travelling to hospital would have been difficult. Local support helped resolve the problem and restored his ability to hear and communicate.
Help keep this support available

Living with hearing loss can affect someone’s confidence, independence and ability to stay connected with the people around them.
Having somewhere local and welcoming to turn can make a real difference. It gives people access to practical help, advice, reassurance and peer support when they need it.
