Join the Shropshire Village Halls Quiz League and put your village’s knowledge to the test
Villages across Shropshire are being invited to take part in the Shropshire Village Halls Quiz League. A friendly, fun and sociable competition that helps bring communities together while raising valuable funds for local village halls.
The league, which runs from October through to March, welcomes teams from villages and local communities across the county to compete in a series of monthly quiz evenings, before coming together for a Grand Final and prizegiving event in April.
Organised in support of Shropshire village halls and Community Resource, the league has become a popular way for local people to enjoy regular social evenings, meet teams from around the county and discover some of Shropshire’s wonderful village halls along the way.
A fun community activity for all
Teams consist of up to four players, and members can change from month to month, making it easy for people to get involved. Players do not need to serve on a Village Hall Committee, and people from neighbouring parishes are also encouraged to join.
Teams compete in regional groups to help keep travel manageable, and if there is enough interest locally, more than one team can enter from the same area.
Each monthly quiz night offers more than just bragging rights. Top-scoring teams can win bottles of wine, while separate fun quizzes on the night offer the chance to win chocolates and other prizes. Host halls also run refreshments and raffles, helping to generate additional income for local community spaces.
Refreshments are available for a modest £2.50 per player, with all proceeds going directly to the host village hall.
Supporting village halls across Shropshire
The Quiz League not only provides enjoyable evenings throughout the winter months, but also helps support the important role village halls play in rural communities.
Each team simply needs a local coordinator to organise players and act as the main point of contact. League tables, venue details and monthly updates are all shared by email throughout the season.
Annual entry fees are:
- £10 for affiliated members of Shropshire Community Resource
- £15 for non-affiliated halls
Payment can be made by cheque or BACS when submitting an entry form.
